Beginners guide to Twitter

This is my personal guide to using Twitter as a beginner, based on my own experience.

How to get get started:

Get yourself down to www.twitter.com, and register for an account. Once you’ve done this, add a little information about you (who you are, where you live, etc), and upload a photo to add a personal touch to your tweets.

Get following:

Start hunting for people you want to keep connected with. This could be friends, colleagues or local people.

Now you’re following a few people, and hopefully a few are following you back, you can start getting involved in conversation.

Twitter is a tool for listening to the crowd’s views, but it is also a tool to reach those crowds; be this in the form of sharing your own work and articles, or asking your followers questions.

Make a conscious effort to get involved in conversations relevant to you and your local area, and you’ll soon find your list of followers growing.
